Pakistan is actively seeking investment in onshore and offshore exploration activities, the development of explored wells, and the construction of gas pipelines. Pakistan's midstream and downstream sectors also offer business opportunities.

With continuous electricity shortfall prevailing between 5000 – 7000 MW, the development of indigenous energy resources, such as COAL, HYDRO & THERMAL is critical for sustainable economic growth, as envisaged in Vision 2025. The government is attracting foreign companies to undertake new transmission, distribution, exploration, and production activities by giving attractive incentives.

Smart Energy System is cost-effective, sustainable, secure, renewable energy production, storage systems, demand side response, electrical vehicles, energy efficiency, active users, and intelligent networking are often associated with the Smart Energy System concept. It is a broader term than Smart Grid, in the sense that it includes more sectors (electricity, heating, cooling, industry, buildings, transportation, water) rather than focusing exclusively on the electricity sector.
